Cultural treasures of Upper Lusatia

The towns of Upper Lusatia are known for their rich history. Architecture, art and monuments have shaped the cityscapes. Theater and film sets, culinary delights and high and subculture events make Upper Lusatia a cultural region. The characterful places, which are often special due to their traditional architecture, appear authentic and undisguised. Castles, parks and gardens dot Upper Lusatia and the border triangle, as do churches and monasteries. Three UNESCO titles radiate internationally. Centuries-old Sorbian customs and traditions are preserved and celebrated.

Bautzen and Görlitz, which once belonged to the historic League of Six Towns, are outstanding for those interested in city tourism. The medieval town of Bautzen is also a popular tourist destination due to its memorial to the modern era.
Görlitz, on the other hand, became prosperous during the Wilhelminian era and is a bilingual center in eastern Saxony thanks to its Polish neighbors.

Prince Pückler Park in Bad Muskau is a UNESCO-certified cultural heritage site and the largest landscape park in Central Europe.

The Via Sacra pilgrimage route combines culture and nature, peace and variety, exercise and contemplation. It is marked by the scallop shell and shows those interested the way to sacred buildings and meeting places in the German-Polish-Czech border triangle.

The Sorbian language and culture, festivals and customs throughout the year are protected by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. In particular, the Sorbian-Catholic tradition of Easter riders is internationally renowned, as are dances, poetry and theater.

Görlitz is also known as"Görliwood", as the city on the Polish border has been the backdrop for a number of Hollywood films ("The Reader", "Around the World in 80 Days") and national productions.
