Information on the project

The project

The project is called "Discover the geological treasures of Upper Lusatia and Lower Silesia!". It is a project in the INTERREG Poland - Saxony 2014 - 2020 cooperation program.

The project has a total value of EUR 484,536.35. The funding from the European Union amounts to 85 percent.

The aim of the project

The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the geological features in Germany and Poland, especially in Upper Lusatia and Lower Silesia.

At first glance, geology plays a subordinate role in tourism. On closer inspection, however, geology is often the basis for a region's more or less pronounced touristic attractiveness.

The project partners

The project was applied for by the Förderverein Lausitzer Findlingspark Nochten e.V. - later a LEAD partner in the project. The LEAD partner leads the project to a large extent.

The project partners are Gmina i Miasto Lwówek Śląski (Löwenberg in Silesia) and the Marketing-Gesellschaft Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien mbH (MGO).

Planned results of the project

The project runs from 01.06.2018 up to and including 31.05.2021.

Planned results of the project are Workshops, exhibitions, various film and advertising materials on the boulder park in Nochten and the Agate Summer in Löwenberg, a concept for better use of special tourist features in the region, development of discovery tours, video clips and advertising campaigns.

The project partners are jointly responsible for achieving the project results.

Project results

Results that can be published are available here. These can be concepts, advertising content or similar.

  • Geological treasures Gravel route"Swamp is trump - the search for gravel happiness in Lower Silesia" - the result of a scouting tour sounds provocative and exciting. As part of the project, the border triangle as far as Löwenberg was explored and tested for gravel suitability. The results are summarized in this document.
  • Concept "Geological treasures - a niche topic?"The concept was developed as part of the "Discover the geological treasures of Upper Lusatia and Lower Silesia!" project. The concept is primarily aimed at the project partners and interested stakeholders in (geo)tourism. The concept describes approaches - using the project partners as examples - for linking geological features with tourism (flagship) themes and products. The concept has neither a scientific claim nor a claim to completeness. It was written in order to compare geology and tourism and to work out approaches for mutual networking - tailored to the partners in the project.

The Marketing-Gesellschaft Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien mbH (MGO) publishes tenders for individual projects within the framework of the project here. These are exclusively invitations to tender issued by the MGO.
