RockHead - What is it about?
The RockHead is a gravel bike route that:
- connects Saxon Switzerland and Upper Lusatia and their unique landscapes,
- picks up on market trends in cycle tourism ,
- serves to guide visitors,
- creates a new vacation experience for your guests.
RockHead - an allusion to the rock formations along the route
What is a gravel bike?
- Visually similar to a road bike, but slightly heavier
- wider tires, approx. 28 to 35mm
- no suspension or shock absorber
- suitable for forest and gravel paths, but not for mountain bike trails
- Gravel bikers like to use bikepacking bags on the handlebars, frame or saddle instead of pannier bags
Route information
- approx. 300 km round tour through Saxon Switzerland and Upper Lusatia
- more than 4,500 meters in altitude
- 47% gravel, forest and natural paths, 18% road surface (concrete slabs), 35% asphalt
- connecting paths are planned between route sections for smaller circular routes or shortcuts, so-called loops
- No signposting is planned - the route will be digital only with the advantage of being able to make quick adjustments in the event of closures, forestry work, etc.
- You can start anywhere, starting and finishing points are recommended, especially places with rail connections and good parking facilities
- Most important connections: Löbau, Bischofswerda, Neukirch/Lausitz, Eibau, Großschönau, Zittau, Bad Schandau, Sebnitz,
Neustadt i.Sa., Stolpen, Pirna, Stadt Wehlen - Start via feeder route also possible from the greater Dresden area
Target groups
- Adventure-oriented and sporty active vacationers who travel by gravel and mountain bike
- mostly male, ø approx. 43 years
- like to travel in pairs (friends/partner), also in groups
- Close to nature, individual, looking for adventure and challenges
- Target markets: Germany, Poland & Czech Republic
- Other target group: Families with older children (approx. 13 years and over)
